MONDAY MYTH BUSTER – Holiday leave calculations

In light of Donna’s recent holiday escapades, we thought it would be timely to remind our readers of the statutory holiday entitlement of their staff.

Question: Do I have to pay my staff to take a holiday?

Answer: In short – yes! The amount of statutory holiday entitlement you must pay depends on how many days an employee works per week. Of course, should you (as an employer) want to provide more than the statutory amount of holidays, that is of course up to you (and we think that makes you an excellent boss) – your employees will certainly be grateful!

1 day worked per week = 5.6 days’ holiday per year

2 days worked per week = 11.2 days’ holiday per year

3 days worked per week = 16.8 days’ holiday per year

4 days worked per week = 22.4 days’ holiday per year

5 or more days worked per week = 28 days’ holiday per year

Reminder: The above figures must always be rounded up, and never down.
